Today’s the day you’ll probably have to start paying for iCloud storage, folks — if you’re a former MobileMe subscriber, anyway. After giving us 25GB of iCloud storage absolutely free for two years, Apple has now ended the offer and dropped all non-paying iCloud users down to the basic 5GB plan.
If you need more than that, you’ll have to sign up for a subscription from today.
Apple has issues countless warnings to former MobileMe subscribers to let them know the cut was coming; in fact, if you were over the 5GB limit the Cupertino company would have sent you one email a day for the past week. So you were probably aware of the fact that your storage limit was going to decrease.
Fortunately, it’s easy to upgrade your storage limit again, and Apple’s prices are pretty reasonable. For an additional 10GB of storage, you’ll pay just $20 per year, while an additional 20GB of storage is $40 per year. The biggest package gives you 50GB of additional data for $100 per year. These allowances are added to the 5GB every user gets as standard.

Hello guys, but what to do if my iPhone backup (312 MB for now) and iCloud says i’m using whole lotta 5 GB? The things went odd even before Apple’s warning letters, but not too much, really. A couple of months or so the started warning me that “you have free 19.4 GB of 25 GB space”.
I was using my iCloud for my old iPhone, then for both new and old ones, but then i made new AppleID for my wife and now she’s quite happy with her personal iCloud (iPhone 3.2 GB, iPad 414 MB). But mine is overloaded with the only 1 iPhone signed to… With photo stream option in OFF mode. Photo album sync is also OFF.
Utterly curious — does anybody else faced it? How it was solved (if it was)?
